Liz Power Photography in the Newspaper today! 10/28/7

Sooooo I thought this was pretty cool and thought I'd share it with anyone who wants to read the article published about our studio in the Newspaper today. We're pretty excited they wanted to do a story about our family business. As many of you know, Diana and I (Becca) joined Mom and Dad (Liz and Terry) in this business not too long ago. Diana is all about photographing babies, and Keith (my husband) and I are all about weddings. Working here is the greatest thing ever.

HERE IS THE ARTICLE. IT'S IN TODAY'S PAPER IN THE BUSINESS SECTION.

Liz Power is ready for her youngest daughter to start having children -- or at least she can't wait to photograph them, she said.

"Well, we have to arrange it around the wedding schedule," she said, giggling with her oldest daughter, Diana, who already has four children.

It was a workday, and Terry and Liz Power sat in their living room, full of photo albums and hung portraits and talked shop with their two daughters, Diana Simpson and Becca Rocha, who double as employees from nine to five.

It's the end of the wedding season, and in October the team is scheduled to shoot ten weddings.

"I don't look at myself as a boss as much as the one with the most experience," Mrs. Power said.

Mrs. Power, owner of Liz Power Photography in Red Bank, started her photography business in 1993 at the age of 40.

She has weathered the technological changes of the photography industry -- the move from film to digital and the emergence of online proofing -- but she is hoping her daughters will push their business ahead of the curve.

Since her daughters started working at the studio this fall, Mrs. Power has begun a successful blog, and she said the family also plans to move to a full studio and expand their children's portrait business.

The studio has provided online proofing through their Web site for two years. But, she said, their site, www.lizpowerphotography.com, began to attract more visitors once they began to write about shoots and post pictures on its blog.

"A big part of photography today is building relationships with clients," said Mrs. Simpson, who helped develop the blog. "When a mom opens up a blog with pictures at her workplace (to show fellow workers), you can't purchase that type of advertising."

Mrs. Power said she never thought she would work with her daughters, who both agreed they did not want to do photography when they were younger.

Yet, portrait photography became more appealing to them, said Mrs. Rocha, when they realized that it is a way to tell family stories.

"When a bride gets her album it's a piece of art," Mrs. Power said. "You used to line people up and shoot them. Now you are constantly working, looking for the key picture."
